BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4)– University of Colorado Boulder Senior Matthew Parone is stuck in student housing with nowhere else to go. This after the university banned all 18-to-22-year-olds from gatherings of any size, indoors or out, until further notice. The order was issued by the Boulder County Health Department and went into effect at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

“Everyone feels trapped,” Parone told CBS4’s Andrea Flores. “This is absolutely crazy because it’s targeting specifically college aged students, whether you go to college or not.”

Since the start of the school year, students have been caught on camera disobeying social distancing and face mask guidelines.

Parone is on the student government and believes the university dropped the ball bringing students back before it was safe.

“We’re going to see our friends because they’re our family here,” said Parone. “We’re far away from our family, and that’s how CU Boulder pitched the school. This is the place where we’re going to find our home and find our family.”

University Chancellor Phil DiStefano addressed students’ concerns in a news conference.

“We are focusing on the virtual events that we can create for students, and any other support they may need while they are experiencing college life in such an altered way.”

With in-person learning also suspended for now, some students say they’ve been scammed.

“Our hands are tied, and there’s nothing that we can do, because we already paid for tuition,” Parone said.

On Monday, university officials announced in-person learning would be suspended for at least two weeks — and now, students are being told no gatherings are allowed, except for essential purposes.

The latest CDC statistics for ages 0-19 have a COVID survival rate of 99.997% and ages 20-49 of 99.98%. The CU students are being held prisoner for no reason. They should start a riot to get out of prison.

I was just reading some of the insanely stupid remarks in this article. Things like “fake coronavirus pandemic”, “systemic racism”, “violation of 1st, 5th and 14th amendments”, “socialism and communism” and it goes on and on. While most 18-22 year olds are doing the right thing and following the health protocols, you obviously have the radically stupid ones that think it is their “right” to defy intelligence and turn this into a political issue instead of acknowledging the real deadly medical pandemic that it is. 200,000+ lives have been lost! What selfish, spoiled, self-absorbed pathetic individuals would think it is OK with putting numerous lives in danger just so they can party?

They caught you all by looking at the sewage? Who knew that a .025 micron size piece of RNA is so easy to spot in all that waste water. The Science is amazing!

  4. Gail Lindsey says:

Perhaps these students should engage in a peaceful protest against the lockdown rules imposed by the county.

soooo students got a cold…… HOW MANY HOSPITALIZATIONS ! bet cha NO DEATHS…….. this is asinine !!!

Violation of 1st, 5th and 14th amendments. Legal expert on one of the main local channels defended the order saying even if the order is unconstitutional, the two week order would be over before any legal challenge could be mounted! WHAT? I guess there is a ‘Two Week Suspension Clause” that I missed on my reading!?

  7. Gary says:

Great comments, better testing and sanitizing (personal & areas) would always help.

But why do they insist on breaking the 6-ft distancing so often?

The consequences were staring them in the face like a pregnancy/abortion yet they rolled the dice anyway. But but but… I was high, drunk or out of my mind and not in control. Duh – for sure – now deal with the consequences. But but but… “Special Privilege” and another “Do Over.”

Kids 18-22 generally hate the Founding Fathers, the Constitution and Bill of Rights, Capitalism, Free Markets, and pretty much 99% of America’s history. So spare me your whining you mush headed little socialists.

“It’s all Trumps fault, when you get right down to it… “

  10. Michael Mathis says:

So the 18-22 year olds do have one response that should give the progressive Lysenkoists of the Colorado State government/medical industrial complex pause….” MAGA Trump 2020 and No! to Hickenlooper(Hicken”sewer”) for the US senate!!!” Nothing Po’s 18-22 year olds more than being told they can’t see their friends, especially over a ‘now it kills you now it really doesn’t kill you virus”(depending on the latest news oscillation between “Antifa lovefests”….and “oops” optics are bad better gin up the virus fear porn again” which comes from the Biden fellating news media!

What’s the matter? You young people in college don’t like the authoritarian rule that comes along with Socialism and Communism? What you are seeing with masks, social distancing and the quaranteening of otherwise healthy people is a direct outcome of what you have been looking for. Now that you have it, your not satisfied? How ‘unscientific’ and ‘progressive’ of you.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

  13. Common Sense says:

Many in this age group are so immature when it comes to taking the pandemic seriously. They are listening to fake and false social media reports from people like Johnny Kay because they are that stupid! Had this age group been mature enough to have taken this seriously and not defied the rules, CU and the city would not have had to done any of this! It is sad that the mature adults in this age group are being subjected to these mandates but as always, a few stupid ones ruin it for all. Instead of being angry towards CU sand the city; get mad at the idiots that caused this.

  14. Jeff Mason says:

While the virus is real, these kinds of reactions are dangerous and unconstitutional. The ban only affects 18-22 year olds? Age discrimination and a violation of the Equal Protection clause. A 23 -year old has no more rights than a 22-year old. Can’t gather anywhere in groups of any size? Violation of the First Amendment Right to Peaceful Assembly. These students have rights too. If the violate the law, arrest them. Otherwise, leave them alone.

    1. Freeland_Dave says:

But isn’t thism what them woke generation is rioting for as they plea for socialism?

No better place to trap the elusive ha-irbrained liberal than Boulder CO.

  18. Cee Palmson says:

Defy the bans. Mingle, meet and congregate. It is a protest against systemic racism. After all, the liberal asshats running cities like Boulder did nothing to stop protests in the past. Just have you gatherings and tell Barney Fife you are protesting. Stop the lunacy. Get to herd immunity. Damn the death toll. Death is part of nature. Stop trying to mess with Mother Nature and let the disease run its course. That what it is supposed to do!

  19. Johnny Kay says:

More martial law madness using the fake coronavirus “pandemic” as an excuse.

The starting point for knowing the truth about anything is to believe the opposite of what the government and the corporate media tell us.

The coronavirus “pandemic” is a fraud — an invisible, all-purpose enemy to which the government can attribute any dangers it wants to frighten and control us.

The international corporate elite that runs things behind the scenes has taken an illness no more dangerous than the common flu (and probably far less so) and turned it into an excuse for an enormous expansion of government power and an enormous redistribution of resources — literally, trillions of dollars — from the citizens to the corporate elite.

The international corporate elite has used every organization under its control — which is to say, every organization of consequence — to promote this false narrative.

According to numerous studies and the government’s own data, at least 98% of those who have the coronavirus are asymptomatic — they have no symptoms. They are not sick.

The vast majority of the rest have minor symptoms. Only a very small percentage of the remaining group — almost all of whom have pre-existing co-morbidity factors such as asthma, cancer, COPD, diabetes, or morbid obesity — have severe symptoms. Only a very small percentage of that group actually die.

In terms of its real effect, COVID-19 is like a mild flu — a very mild flu.

There is no legitimacy to any of it. The masks, the “social distancing”, the “social bubbles”, the “self-isolation”, the “self-quarantining”, the “contact tracing”, the “flattening the curve”, the “alone together”, the shutdowns, the lockdowns, the push for vaccination, the push for testing, the bans on assemblies and large groups, the restrictions on churches and prayer groups — none of that is to keep us safe, but all of it is to condition us to accept more government control, more arbitrary regimentation, more transfers of taxpayer money to the corporate elite, and mandatory vaccination.

We have been lied to every step of the way. News reports of overworked doctors, overflowing morgues, crowded hospitals, crowded ICUs, emergency rooms inundated with thousands of COVID-19 patients, racing ambulances full of COVID-19 patients, mass graves, and refrigerated trucks full of bodies are contradicted by numerous videos of empty hospitals, empty waiting rooms, empty “testing centers”, and parked ambulances in the alleged “epicenters” of the pandemic.

The coronavirus charade is no different from previous virus panics — SARS, MERS, Swine Flu, Zika — only now the people at the top think we are divided enough, stupid enough, and weak enough to submit to a massive acceleration of the ongoing transfer of power and wealth from us to them. Sadly, it appears that they are correct.

Too many of us still believe — despite overwhelming historical and contemporary evidence to the contrary — that the government and the corporate media do not lie, especially about the big things. In reality, the government and the corporate media lie about everything — especially about the big things.

    1. Common Sense says:

This Johnny Kay is an absolute nut case. 200,000+ dead and Johnny claims this is “a fake coronavirus “pandemic” so that the government can control people? What an idiot!!! What an idiot!!! What an idiot!!!

You can be part of the solution or part of the problem. The simple practice of wearing a mask has been vilified as an affront to freedom by many. Give me a break. If students, or anyone for that matter, had adopted the simple task of wearing face masks, indoors and out, before and after they arrived on campus, there would probably not be the stringent rules placed on them. Too many people have shown zero responsibility and continue to do so. Nobody enjoys this pandemic but most people understand they can be part of the solution. Even though students are at a reduced age risk for serious complications , they can still spread it. Stop with the selfish attitude and do your part and we can get through this together.

    1. the Gallaher's says:

Unfortunately you are completely wrong and indoctrinated — i.e. dangerous to the rest of us who still have common sense. When less than .003 % of college aged students die of this or any flu virus, there is no scientific or moral reasoning for these tyrannical mandates, which are not laws and are condemned by legal scholars, professors and even the AG of the US. The fact that you are still defending the civil rights rape — well, it’s likely too late for you.

  21. MattAlabamaLib says:

This is outrageous. The 1st Amendment to the Constitution GUARANTEES the freedom to assemble. People have lost their minds and all perspective because of “the COVID”. This has gone on long enough. The greater societal danger from COVID at this point appears to be that it causes irrational panic and stupidity.

  22. the Gallaher's says:

All citizens lives are in danger in these leftist communist states. If we don’t bow to their civil rights rape, we’re called names. If we don’t believe them on the ‘virus’, they set fires to our states and sic the BLM/ANTIFA mobs. They use the anger of youth, just like Hitler did with the Brown Shirts (which he rounded up and shot when they were no longer useful). Call it progressive, call it socialistic, but it’s really communism leading to a central world government. States and countries who resist, will suffer all sorts of woes.. This is it folks..

  23. Stargazer71 says:

Literally nobody is surprised that CU is the place that became a hotspot. The students there are an embarrassment to the state.

  24. Danny S. says:

This order (details given in the first page linked to from this article) is absolutely outrageous, turning students into prisoners in their dorms. It is the County, not the University, that issued it, but I expect the University was at least consulted about it. Young people are the least vulnerable age group, so the order doesn’t even make sense. I want to say I hope the County gets sued over this and has to pay big damages, but that really is not the answer, since the money would end up being paid by county taxpayers, who are not the ones responsible. This order is so over-reaching, I wonder if the people at the County Health Department responsible for it could be charged with criminal civil rights violations “under color of law” using 19th century Civil Rights law.

  25. AC7880 says:

Welcom to the results of voting for democrats and the resulting facism.

    1. Fascists are very concerned about facism, I know, but what is it?

  26. The University really botched its reopening — it should have instituted rapid, repetitive, low-specificity, paper testing for COVID-19 so as to identify infected students and prevent the huge surge in cases it has seen. Rather than take effective action to prevent contagion, UC erected signs telling students to wear masks outdoors (not shown to reduce transmission of the virus) and resorted to this blanket ban. Chancellor DiStefano should have resigned long ago; if the University had competent leadership, it would have fired him.
