CBS4 Weather Watcher Files 30,000th Report As Program Turns 1

DENVER (CBS4) - This week marks the first anniversary of CBS4's Weather Watcher program.

Participants report current weather conditions to Colorado's Weather Center using simple tools such as a rain gauge and thermometer. During the winter a ruler or yardstick is used to measure snowfall.

To date over 400 people from around Colorado have become extended members of the CBS4 weather team.

John Stout, a Lone Tree weather watcher, set a milestone with his morning report on August 24th. It was the 30,000th report sent to CBS4 since the program began.

Weather watchers enter their data through a special computer system that allows the CBS4 weather team to get reports in real-time and show them live on air.

Some weather watchers check in daily during every newscast and others report once a week, or when big storms roll through.

Weather watchers occasionally provide pictures and video clips and even give fun weather related information about the sky.

During severe storms weather watchers will occasionally join CBS4 live on air to give a special report.

There are no specific criteria to join the CBS4 Weather Watchers other than to have some simple weather tools and a passion to help tell the weather story.
