DENVER (CBS4) – Some restaurants are shutting down one day after Gov. Jared Polis and the State of Colorado announced a new ban on indoor dining due to coronavirus in several counties and the City of Denver starting Friday. Beet Box Bakery has been a Denver staple for people with dietary restrictions.

The vegan and gluten-free café has been in business since 2013. It’s just one of the countless businesses across the state feeling the pinch during the coronavirus pandemic. They announced Wednesday they’re shutting down for good.

“This is a lot bigger than just us here,” said owner, Blair Ednie. “We tried to ride it out as long as we could, but we just started to see the writing on the wall. Sales are declining, weather gets poorer, there are lots of cases of coronavirus cropping up, employees are scared and customers are scared.”

Beet Box Bakery, at 22nd and Downing, closed in March, at the beginning of the pandemic, with 20 employees. They re-opened in June with only nine employees.

“We’re just seeing that it’s not going to be tenable, so it’s responsible for us to shut down in an orderly way and make sure that people have some stability,” he told CBS4’s Andrea Flores.

Even with a takeout-only system, Ednie says cafes like his can’t sustain on that model long-term.

“Having your revenue cut in half?” he said. “How long can anyone survive that?”

With only a few days left to sell baked goods, Beet Box hopes people continue to support small businesses in the coming months.

“Any kind of patronage you can give to them is going to help,” said Ednie. “If we prioritize our health, and mental health for that matter, and make it through this, there will be another side to this.”

Ednie has started a GoFundMe to help his employees. All of the money raised will go directly toward the employees as they search for new jobs.

Demonrat governors and mayors may have killed thousands more people than Covid with their tyrannical dictates. Suicides, overdoses, alcohol, depression, family violence, violence in the streets. How much of it caused by lockdowns and unemployment?

I wonder if the brain trusts posting above realize that, at this moment, there is only so much that the state gov can do w/o assistance from the federal gov. Critical thinking is not their strong point. State gov are scheduling a session in order to determine what they can do as a state vs. continuing to wait on the sad sacks who can’t seem to drop the measuring stick. Blame your current (not incoming) gov for the mess we are in, the lack of response, the delays in getting another deal done to assist their constituents and try for once, to actual to the job that is before them in a timely and responsible manner. You know, before the ships start sinking. What a concept.

You voted for him. You’re getting what comes naturally. Just wait until Kampala Harris (er, I mean Biden) takes over. You ain’t seen anything yet! And the Looper———y’all won’t have to worry about making any decisions……….your life will be totally controlled. All you’ll have to do is keep your wallet open and follow along.

All hail to the pillow biting Führer Jared Schutz. For it is he who decorates the covid dial the same colors as the flag that represents his orientation.

Hurray! Local and state leadership have put another business under and more people out of work! Yay!!!! All hail Polis!

Yay majority voters of Colorado!!! I commend you all on your excellent choice of state and local leadership. It appears you continued it this election as well. Excellent!

I am all on board for forcing the closing of these businesses and any others that our esteemed majority voted for state and local leaders require for our safety. I know I am doing my part to help this process out like a good comrade! I am not visiting any of my favorite local businesses, it has been months.

I look forward to many more stories of these evil businesses going out of business and many more evil employed people put out of work!
