Over-Performing Storm Slams Denver With Heavy Snow And Surprise Flash Freeze

By Chris Spears

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver is known as one of the most difficult places in the world to forecast the weather and it lived up to that reputation Thursday.

A fall storm arrived right on time and performed as expected until late Thursday afternoon when an area of low pressure began to rapidly intensify on Colorado's eastern plains.

That intensification brought a surge of cold air out of Wyoming allowing temperatures to drop into the mid-20s at the same time moderate to heavy snow was falling.

The combination created a flash freeze on area highways which caused gridlock during the evening commute.
