Woman Tries To Unite Neighborhood After Crime Spree

By Jeff Todd

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- After a rash of thefts and break-ins in her neighborhood, one resident says she's trying to get her neighbors to help stop the crimes.

"We've been having some problems with some break-ins. We had a home invasion right across the street a couple of weeks ago. A couple of days ago we had a home invasion two doors down. In the last two weeks we've had nine or 10 houses hit from behind," said Lynnell Green-Keyes.

She's taken to the website Nextdoor to try and get neighbors to be more vigilant and take matters into their own hands.

"I have Protection 1, we have new locks on all our gates, we have flood lights front and back, and a 9 millimeter," she said.

Westminster police said they only had two reports of break-ins for the small street in question since the beginning of September. Lynnell told CBS4 that was news to her.

"I know that 10 behind-the-house break-ins were reported because the police are the ones who told us how many houses had been hit in just this block," she said. "Unfortunately it might be like cockroaches, they just move. But if they're intent on doing something bad I'm intent on stopping them because I've got two small grandchildren here."
