Boigon Ends Mayoral Bid For Denver
DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver mayoral race has one less candidate. Carol Boigon ended her run Monday.
When she made the announcement to withdraw her bid, she endorsed fellow candidate Michael Hancock, a Denver City Councilman.
"Today I am withdrawing from the race and I am giving my support to my friend, councilman Michael Hancock to be the next mayor of Denver," said Boigon.
Boigon used the platform to talk about a future she envisions for Denver, and that Hancock is the man to lead the way.
"I put my name in for this important race because I thought this was a very important time for the city. And there were things I thought had to be said and plans I thought had to be made going forward. I believe right now we have an opportuntity to build the economy for Denver's future and that economy will be full of invention and opporutnity for people with great ideas but also for great energy. Jobs for people who have the new ideas and jobs for people who want to make the products and provide the services from those new ideas and build the modern American economy here in Denver," said Boigon.
"I ran because this is the city I love, because I have worked for it for 20 years, and I believe right now I am making the endorsement of the man who will be able to carry this vision forward in the very best way, Michael Hancock."
Hancock said he appreciated Boigon's support.
"Carol has been a very special friend for a very long time. I know this has been a very challenging and difficult decision for you to make. You are absolutely loved and cherished by your supporters and your staff who think the world of you. For you to put your support behind me, I am awfully humbled and honored by your support," Hancock.
The general election is set for May 3 and may be followed by a runoff election.
