Mayoral Candidates Tackle Both Broad And Community Issues In Debate

DENVER (CBS4) - As Election Day in the Denver mayor's race draws closer, the candidates are making their cases for why they should be elected in multiple debates throughout the city.

In an hour-long debate that aired Friday night on CBS4 election partner Colorado Public Television six of the 10 candidates made their pitches on the airwaves. CBS4's Shaun Boyd moderated the debate along with Colorado Public Television's Eric Sondermann.

The topics ranged from broad subjects like the city's budget, police brutality and illegal immigration to neighborhood issues including the city's pit bull ban, charging for trash pickup and historic preservation.

Candidates who participated were Michael Hancock, Chris Romer, Doug Linkhart, Carol Boigon, Theresa Spahn and James Mejia. (Editor's Note: A few days after this debate aired Boigon announced she was dropping out of the race. Full Story)
