As fall starts, and the back-to-school efforts begin, take a look at these great options for after-school sports leagues. Not only will your child enjoy the sport, but he or she will work on important life-long skills like teamwork, sportsmanship and cooperation.
YMCA Youth Sports

The YMCA is no stranger to offering great summer programs for kids of all ages. However, it continues to offer a wide variety of options year round. The baseball program at the YMCA is huge here in Denver, and seven leagues focus on age groups perfect for developing little sluggers. From the Jr. Rockies Little Sluggers T-Ball program for ages 3 through 4 to the Player Fast Pitch Softball for fifth and sixth graders, your child is sure to find the perfect fit.

The city of Aurora offers a variety of sports leagues as well, including a great volleyball league for boys and girls from ages 2 through 12. The fall program runs from September through October and teaches all of the basics of the sport of volleyball, including the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. Practices and games are held in the gymnasiums of Aurora-area recreation centers and middle schools.

Soccer has been a popular athletic activity for children in Colorado for decades and Skyline Soccer has been there for more than 45 years. With more than 2,500 players of all ages enjoying the game of soccer every season, Skyline is the perfect place to start your soccer player’s career. Skyline works with ages 2 through 18 and all levels from beginner to advanced. The games and practices are held at parks throughout the Denver area, and parents are encouraged to be active and participate in the leagues.

Rugby is a very fast growing sport throughout the United States, and Rugby Colorado brought it to Denver. It offers programs for ages 5 through 17 for both boys and girls in flag and contact rugby. If your child is new to the sport, Rookie Rugby is the perfect place to start, as it is a non-contact, easy game for both boys and girls. Once your child develops a love of rugby, enroll him or her in more traditional contact leagues that still promise attention to your child’s health and safety.
