There is something magical about Colorado in the fall. The aspen trees turn magnificent colors, the air turns crisp and cool, the holiday seasons are just ahead and the snow begins to fall. Colorado is special all year long but some adventures are perfect for cool weather. Check out these options for some very special family getaways, just perfect for fall days.

Fair Winds Hot Air Balloon Flights

What better way to see all of the beautiful fall colors than to see them from above? Just a short drive outside of Denver will take you to the launch point for Fair Winds Hot Air Balloon Flights, where you can get the most breathtaking views of Colorado in the fall. Not only will you be able to take your whole family up in the balloon, but you can participate in the inflation and deflation of the balloon itself. In addition, breakfast is included, as is a bottle of champagne (or cider), a balloon pin, T-shirt and a personalized photo to remember the occasion. The trip lasts about an hour to an hour and a half but your whole adventure will take around three hours, so it is the perfect morning activity to jump start a day of adventure in the Rocky Mountains. This may be a bit of a splurge, but it is an experience the whole family is sure to remember.

Late fall and early winter signals one important thing in Colorado – ski season. Keystone opens for the season on November 2, so get ready to hit the slopes and take full advantage of living in this beautiful state. For those that are new to the ski country, there is a myriad of different places to take lessons. And with separate classes for kids, teens and adults, you won’t have to be embarrassed if that nine-year-old makes you look bad. Make reservations at one of the beautiful hotels in the area, set up a tee time at one of two amazing golf courses and be sure to visit one of the signature restaurants in town. Or for a very special weekend, try the Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride Dinner where the whole family can enjoy a rustic cabin feast, cowboy tunes and a memorable sleigh ride.

Looking for another great getaway that is perfect for the whole family? Not all getaways mean a trip to the mountains, and since the weather in fall is always unpredictable, sometimes it is best to avoid the mountains altogether. If you have never been to The Broadmoor Resort in Colorado Springs, here is your chance. This luxury hotel has been in operation since 1918 and it is truly a one-of-a-kind destination. In addition to the incredible hotel and spa accommodations, check out all the great trails and hikes nearby. Try the western Horseback Riding Experience, complete with pony rides for the very young, or head out on Cheyenne Lake in a two-person paddleboat. If dad wants some time alone, drop him off at the Broadmoor Golf Club or take the whole family to tennis camp. Make sure to save some time for getting lost in the many boutique shops located on the resort, including a truly special Christmas shop. After all, the holidays are right around the corner so this is the perfect time to stock up on those extra special gifts.
