SAN DIEGO, Calif. (CBS4) – The founder of CorePower Yoga has been found dead under suspicious circumstances at his home in California.

Trevor Tice, 48, lived in San Diego and was found dead on Monday afternoon. His home is located in the Sunset Cliffs area of Point Loma. According to police, when Tice did not answer a friend's texts and calls, they were called to the home.

San Diego Police Lt. Mike Holden said due to evidence found at the scene, homicide detectives were called in to investigate. He has not said why Tice's death is considered suspicious.

"We're just interviewing people here in the neighborhood we're reaching out to people that know the individual who lives here," Lt. Holden told the CBS4 affiliate in San Diego, CBS News 8.

Investigators have not said how Tice died or identified any suspects in the case. They are hoping an autopsy provides more clues.

A neighbor told CBS News 8 the home has been under construction. Tax records indicate it was sold in January. The neighbor said he did not recall seeing anyone move into the home.

"The last couple of months, they've been building an infinity pool in the backyard, they put in new windows and doors, there have been a lot of workmen coming and going," the neighbor said.

CorePower Yoga was started by Tice in Denver in 2002. Since, the company has grown to include more than 160 locations nationwide. CorePower Yoga employees declined to comment on Tice's death.

They released a statement on Facebook, stating: "We are deeply saddened to confirm that our CorePower Yoga founder, Trevor Tice, passed away on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016. CorePower Yoga is a manifestation of the best Trevor brought to the world: boundless energy, an electric smile, an immutable desire to improve. Trevor contributed more to the world than most dare to dream -- and we will forever live in a more joyful, more peaceful, and fundamentally better place because Trevor Tice was part of it. Together, our community is grieving this tragic loss and honoring Trevor's tremendous legacy."
