Stop Poking Around: Police Want 'Pokemon Go' Players Away From Station

By Suzanne McCarroll

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4) - Westminster police are asking Pokemon Go players to stop coming by the police station as part of their game play.

One morning this week between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. officers say 40 players were outside the station.

With recent police shootings across the country, Westminster police don't like the idea of so many people poking around the police station in the early hours. But Pokemon Go enthusiasts say police officers shouldn't feel threatened.

"There's no need to worry police officers, those people or children are just playing Pokemon Go" said one gamer.

As part of the game there are specific community poke stops which include the Westminster police building, the elk statue outside, and the clock tower.

Galen Metzger, 14, was across the street from the station checking in as part of his day's play. He explained, "What you do, you tap on it, spin it, and get items. There's nothing you have to stay there for."

At a Westminster park one block from the police station more Pokemon players were checking off poke stops.

There seem to be poke stops everywhere which is why Westminster police are hoping poke players will stop coming by the station.
