Sexual Assault Victim Thought Man Was Going To Help Her

By Tom Mustin

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - A sketch may be the key to solving a terrifying sex assault in Douglas County. The victim was attacked while she was on the side of the road with a broken down car. She thought the man who stopped was trying to help her.

"It's kind of scary. It's disconcerting," Roxanna Trevino said.

Trevino is on guard after the woman was sexually assaulted near a quiet development in East Parker.

"I just hope officials are able to find him, and everybody's mind can be set at rest," Trevino told CBS4's Tom Mustin.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot-3, fit, white male between 20 and 30 years old.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says Thursday night around 7 p.m. the victim experienced car trouble while driving along a rural road east of Parker Road and north of Hilltop. She pulled over and was approached by a man she thought had come to help her. Instead, he attacked her and drove off.

Trevino has lived in East Parker for 30 years and always felt safe. The assault has changed that.

"I had always hoped that someone would help me or I would be comfortable helping someone else if they had car trouble. It's disturbing," East Parker resident Katy Ward said.

Ward told Mustin there are more animals than people in the area. She believes the attacker may be close by.

"It's not a neighborhood where people are walking around. If you're out you generally live close by," Ward said. "It could be someone who lives in the general vicinity, which is pretty scary."

The suspect is believed to be driving an older model white or gray, single cab pickup with flood lights above the cab.

With the violent criminal still on the loose, Ward says she and her family will no longer take their safety for granted.

"We're not always great at locking the door, but we will be until he's found," she said.

The Sheriff's office says if you're driving and need to pull over, look for a well-lit, populated area if possible. If you feel you're in danger, call 911.
