Turkey Donations Help Families In Need This Holiday
DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver Rescue Mission is asking for frozen turkeys, weighing 12 pounds or more to help those families in need this holiday season. The local non-profit hopes to collect 15,000 by Thanksgiving.
"At this point we only have about 1,000," said Denver Rescue Mission spokesman Stacy Parker. "We are in need, there is only a couple weeks left."
Turkeys will go to less fortunate families across Denver.
"It kind of varies from individuals, men and women, to families with multiple children," Parker added.
This time of year is the busiest for the Mission, that provides about 124,000 meals over the holiday season.
Organizers hope this year's Avian bird flu does not affect turkey donations.
Donations can be dropped off at the Lawrence Street Shelter located at Park Avenue West and Lawrence Street from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those who cannot buy a turkey to drop off are encouraged to make a financial contribution.
