For Sunday Night Football In Denver, It's Scammers 1, Fans 0

DENVER (CBS4) - It was one of the highest priced games on the secondary market, and scammers weren't afraid to take their shot at making a quick buck.

As kickoff neared at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Sunday night, CBS4 found dozens of people at the customer service ticket window looking for help.

"They didn't scan," said Derek Jarr, a Packers fan in town from Arizona. He and three friends paid $450 apiece. "A friend of mine bought some tickets from a scalper and they ended up being void when we got to the gate. I thought we were going to have great tickets, paid good money to get these tickets, and watch a great game."

Jarr's tickets were perforated and had the Ticketmaster logo.

We found several fans that had similar problems with paper tickets that looked real, each out over $400 per ticket.

Many people with ticket issues said they purchased them from scalpers or on secondary market websites.

"My mom sent me the ticket as a present but I guess it's not a very good ticket," said Ryan Hendel, who was road tripping across the country and hoping to see the match-up of undefeated teams.

"Counterfeit ticket, row 1 but there is no row 1 in that section apparently," he said.

A couple from Highlands Ranch had real tickets but ran into another problem.

"They asked if we'd already come in and we said no, so somebody is already in the seats," said Sheri. She believes it was a matter of time, and if she had entered the stadium earlier she would have seen the game.

Denver police apprehended a man accused of selling fake tickets to a couple from Nebraska, it is unknown if he was arrested or charged.

The Denver Broncos suggest using the league approved NFLticketexchange.com on the secondary market.
