Community Helps Out Victim Of Roofing Scam Before Snow Falls

DENVER (CBS4)- The community is stepping in to help a woman who fell victim to scammers before the snow falls.

The roof on Mary Navarro's house was not expected to make it through the winter. She says she allegedly got scammed by Hybrid Remodeling Concepts who took her $15,000 insurance check for hail damage.

Navarro says the contractor never replaced the roof but took the money. Hybrid Remodeling is no longer in business. CBS4 first reported on the scam earlier this week.

Navarro didn't have the money to replace the roof on her own. She's angry with Hybrid and its former owners.

"I hope they quit scamming other people," says Navarro. "I don't want to see this happen to anyone else."

Navarro's story touched the owner of Apollo Roofing and Repairs who decided he had to help. Friday morning, Apolonio Saradia brought in his crews and the material needed to give Navarro a new roof before the winter. Apollo Roofing is donating all of the supplies and labor.

Saradia says he likes to help people, "If I were to have more money, I would help more people."

Saradia says Navarro was pleased when he showed up with the help, "She couldn't believe it, she cried."

From a misfortune, Navarro says, her faith in people is being restored, "I just can't believe it. I don't know how I will repay these people. They're amazing."

Apollo Roofing says they expect nothing in return from Navarro, they just want people to know there are good guys out there too.

"People do bad things and then customers, in general, think we are all bad," said Saradia.
