Nuggets Fans Appalled By Ty Lawson's Behavior

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson has missed practices, has made several questionable posts on social media and now been arrested for a third time on suspicion of DUI.

Fans are now wondering about Lawson's commitment to the team and to the Mile High City in general after the second DUI arrest this year.

"I'm really appalled. I'm upset that he thinks that it's okay to drink and drive. Just because he's an athlete doesn't mean you have special treatment," fan Shannon Healy told CBS4.

Early Tuesday morning, Los Angeles police pulled Lawson over in a speeding stop. He then allegedly failed a field sobriety test and was taken to jail.

Moments before Lawson got in the car with his girlfriend, TMZ spoke with Lawson outside a Hollywood nightclub and he talked about how he smokes from a hooka but doesn't smoke marijuana.

VIC LOMBARDI'S COMMENTARY: Lawson Simply Lost His Way

After years of being one of the top players on the Nuggets roster, Lawson has recently found himself dealing with character issues and trade rumors.

In January, Denver police arrested Lawson on a drunk driving charge. Two weeks ago, Lawson posted a video on social media showing him smoking from a hooka and predicting that he will be sent to the Sacramento Kings.

This week, Lawson backed out of a kids basketball camp in Highlands Ranch.

Fan Jonah Briscoe said Tuesday's arrest is the final straw.

"It seems like he already wants to go," Brisco said. "I think they should trade him, honestly."

With an uncertain future ahead, fan David Hobson told CBS4 the NBA is the least of Lawson's problems.

"He needs some help. Hopefully he gets it. Basketball is not important for this guy right now. It's about getting his life together," Hobson said.

The Denver Nuggets released this statement Tuesday morning regarding Lawson's arrest: "We have been notified of an incident involving Ty Lawson this morning in Los Angeles," said Nuggets General Manager and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly. "We will not have further comment on the matter."
