Nuggets Ty Lawson Arrested On DUI Charge, His 3rd

LOS ANGELES (CBS4) - Denver Nuggets point guard has been arrested for the second time this year on an impaired driving charge.

Early Tuesday morning he was jailed on a DUI charge in the Los Angeles area after displaying several signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication following a traffic stop, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities said the traffic stop happened just before 2 a.m. Tuesday after Lawson's vehicle allegedly was seen speeding on Highway 101 just north of Alvarado Street. State troopers said he displayed several signs of alcohol intoxication and was arrested at 2:29 a.m.

The Denver Nuggets released this statement Tuesday morning regarding Lawson's arrest: "We have been notified of an incident involving Ty Lawson this morning in Los Angeles," said Nuggets General Manager and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly. "We will not have further comment on the matter."

Lawson was also arrested for DUI in January in the Denver metro area and is due in court on that charge this week. In that case, Lawson was arrested going nearly double the speed limit on Park Avenue West heading towards the Interstate 25 on-ramp. The officer reported Lawson slurring his words and swaying as he stood. He refused a breathalyzer.

CBS4 has learned Lawson also had a third charge out of Missouri.

TMZ released video of Lawson and his girlfriend Ashley King at a night club just before his arrest. Lawson can be seen getting into an SUV with King and driving away after talking about Denver and saying he "doesn't smoke weed."

There has been much speculation that the Nuggets are interested in trading Lawson.

This week Lawson had a children's basketball camp scheduled in Highlands Ranch but he backed out.

"Unfortunately, due to Ty Lawson's traveling schedule he does not feel he can actively contribute to this year's camp, as a result he will not be a part of the camp," the Attitude N' Altitude Basketball Skills Camp website states.

It's the second time Lawson has backed out of his own basketball camp which spurred social media battles.

Lawson's bond was set at $5,000.
