6 Things Overheard In Blair O'Neal's Golf Cart

DENVER (CBS4) - Golfer and model Blair O'Neal was recently the special guest on the CBS4 Sports show The 19th Hole, and it's an episode you should check out you're a golf fan.

O'Neal shared several tips that could help you improve your game. She and CBS4's Vic Lombardi also shared plenty of laughs as they played at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club.

Here are some things said in the golf cart between Lombardi and O'Neal in the taping of the show:

Her parents are the reason she's a golfer.
"My dad put me into a junior golf clinic and I loved it and I could hit the ball. And when I hit it I hit it far, so that was fun and exciting," O'Neal said. She said she up to that point had been heavily involved in dance. "After I finished the junior clinic after a couple weeks my parents said 'Either you've got to do dance or golf. Whatever you do, you've got to do it 100 percent.' So I decided to quit dance and do golf."

Attending Arizona State University and playing golf for the Sun Devils was pretty much a no-brainer.
O'Neal grew up and still lives in Arizona. "When I got recruited to play at ASU they had just won three national championships. Growing up there I would see them on the news and follow them. They were the local team and they always had a good program and they were one of the best. It was always my goal to play college golf there."

O'Neal finds herself in Denver frequently.
"I've been coming out to Denver for about the last 5 or 6 years," O'Neal said. "My husband's family lives (in Denver) ... went to high school here and all his family still lives here and we come here for the holidays and in between my travel schedule." O'Neal says she golfs at The Meadows Golf Club in Littleton often.

Modeling isn't as easy as it looks.
"In modeling you've got to make sure that you're giving the client what they want or the look they want or the feel that they want. So it's not as easy as it looks. If you saw all the work that goes in behind it ... it's such long days, weather, getting the lighting right."

Why are South Korean women golfers so dominant?
"Their lives revolve around golf. They absolutely do nothing else but golf, and their families are really into it and rely on their kids being successful in the sport."

Success in golf comes from a blend of mental and physical ability.
O'Neal calls retired golfer Annika Sorenstam the world's greatest female golfer ever. She still gets a thrill out of seeing her golf from time to time at special events. "She's very mentally strong, but then physically she's got a golf swing that holds up under pressure."
