Black Forest Fire Damage Nears $300M
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Insurers estimate that the recent wildfire in Colorado Springs caused nearly $300 million in damage.
The Rocky Mountain Insurance Information Association released an estimate from the Black Forest Fire Monday. The insurers say that the June blaze has prompted about approximately 3,630 homeowner and auto insurance claims. El Paso County reports 486 structures burned.
The total makes Black Forest the second most expensive wildfire in state history. The record remains last year's Waldo Canyon Fire, which led to more than $350 million in claims. That fire was also in Colorado Springs.
The insurers say that the Black Forest Fire caused more total property losses, but fewer overall home and auto insurance claims. The insurers say the Black Forest is more rural and wooded with a wide variety of property types.
