Tucked in the foothills between Golden and Black Hawk, Golden Gate Canyon State Park offers a great destination for taking a break from the hustle of the city. With fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and more, the park has plenty to do on a day outing, and it’s only 40 minutes from Denver, so you won’t spend much of your day driving up to the mountains. Daily park passes are $7-9 per vehicle, and there are picnic areas all over the park. Pack a lunch and spend a day connecting with nature for an affordable price.
