MEEKER, Colo. (CBS4)– An agricultural burn has turned into a massive wildfire. The County Road 8 Fire has been burning for about 24 hours in Western Colorado.
More than 890 acres have burned on private land so far near the town of Meeker. No structures have been destroyed.
Crews are working to secure containment lines and conduct burn out operations. The fire was 60% contained as of 9 p.m. Monday.
“Although crews have made excellent progress on the fire, the potential for fire activity remains high,” the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. “The public is reminded to be cautious with all combustible materials to prevent unwanted, human-caused fires.”
