DURANGO, Colo. (CBS4) – Hot and dry weather is prompting a total ban on burn permits in Durango, according to the fire department there.

High wind, low humidity, and dry fuels are to blame for the burn ban. Durango Fire is suspending burn permits through Friday. They are also “highly discouraging” any agricultural burning.

Extreme heat and low humidity is expected at least through the weekend.
