VIDEO: Feet Of Snow, Debris Still Cover Maroon Bells Scenic Area
PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - The Maroon Bells are still covered with debris from the abnormally busy avalanche season last winter. Downed trees and piles of snow pushed back the opening of the popular hiking spot earlier this year.
The United States Forest Service reports the road to the Maroon Bells is open, but the trails are covered in 6-7 feet of snow and debris.
Crews had hoped to open the area by June 15, but there is no clear estimation when it will open.
