DENVER (CBS4)– This is the first Thanksgiving for many families who are new to the U.S. and making their home in Colorado.
The African Community Center hosted its 11th annual Refugee First Thanksgiving celebration on Monday night.
The feast included traditional dishes like turkey and stuffing but also popular foods from the refugees’ home countries.
“I think the refugees feel very welcome. They feel that people of this community are welcoming them into Denver, that are trying their foods, that are learning about their cultures,” said African Community Center spokeswoman Melissa Theesen.
The refugees came from places like Burma, Syria and Somalia.
