Teen Tells Authorities He Accidentally Shot, Killed His Friend

LaSALLE, Colo. (CBS4) - Deputies in Weld County have arrested a teen who claims he accidentally shot his friend in the town of LaSalle early Saturday morning.

According to the Weld County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call about a shooting in the 18000 block of WCR 43 at approximately 1:30 a.m.

"The reporting party informed dispatchers that he accidentally shot his friend while manipulating a weapon inside the residence," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

The suspect is 17 years old and the victim, who was declared dead at the scene, was 23 years old.

No names have been released at this time.

The suspect, who is currently in custody, is being charged with criminally negligent homicide.

"There is no threat to the safety of the public," the sheriff's office said.
