DENVER (CBS4)– A prescribed burn at Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge sent up plumes of smoke over the Denver metro area on Wednesday.

The burn covers about 300 acres.

The burn was planned to reduce future fire danger and help grow native vegetation in the area.

The burn started on Tuesday and was expected to wrap up about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
