Cirque Du Soleil Bringing 'Toruk' To Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - For one weekend only, Cirque du Soleil is bringing the exciting world of "Toruk" to Denver. It's a brand new kind of show from Cirque Du Soleil and a different experience for audiences.

The set is simple, flat gray, and unimpressive, until you remember this is a Cirque show. For the first time the acrobatic troupe is relying on lighting and projections to carry the audience into a whole new world.

"I would say the main difference is the use of projection that we have in the show, which makes the world…like living…a really living world," said Julia Piolanti, a member of the "Toruk" production.

The world of "Toruk" is inspired by James Cameron's "Avatar", with all the color, costumes and imagination that go with it.

"You are just thrown into another planet…colorful. Where live is happening, waterfalls are running magically all over the stage, waves of beautiful sea, amazing colorful flowers all over, that really…like just..you forget about the world you are living," Piolanti explained.

There's puppetry from the small to the huge, color, costumes and all the magical imagination you expect from Cirque. It's a new step for the company, an arena show that relies on technical magic for its look and a movie for its story, and yet the show remains Cirque all along the way.
