New Report Shows Denver Is Breaking Tourism Records
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver is breaking a number of tourism records. A new report shows more tourists are visiting Colorado's capital.
Visit Denver says 16.4 million travelers came to Denver in 2015. That's a 6 percent increase from 2014. Tourists also spent a record $5 billion in Denver.
Visit Denver attributes the rise in tourism to their multiple marketing campaigns.
"We've had 10 years of tremendous success and growth on the leisure side, which really says a lot about Denver becoming more of a destination than just a gateway city," said Richard Scharf, Visit Denver President and CEO.
The report does not cite the legalization of marijuana as a contributing factor to the rise in tourism.
