Woman Dies From Injuries After Fire, 5 Others Displaced
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - Several people were displaced and one person killed from a fire Friday morning at an apartment in Aurora.
The call came in at approximately 2 a.m. for fire at a building on Galena Street. Firefighters had the blaze under control after an hour. A woman living in the unit where the fire started was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries.
She was the only one in that third floor apartment, and there are no other injuries. Propane tanks were found on the balcony of that unit, and neighbors said they heard loud bangs, like an explosion. Officials said it is unclear if the propane played a role.
Two other units below the apartment where the fire started have extensive water damage, forcing four adults and one child to find somewhere else to stay. The Red Cross has provided temporary lodging and comfort items.
A dog jumped from the apartment on fire, three floors up, and an officer had the dog treated for any injuries.
Crews remained on scene well after 6 a.m. and the cause is still under investigation.
