Wrong-Way Driver Crashes On I-25, Injures Worker
JOHNSTOWN, Colo. (CBS4) - Three people were taken to the hospital early Monday morning after a wrong-way driver crashed on Interstate 25 near Johnstown.
It was approximately 1:30 a.m. when two women were traveling northbound in the southbound direction of I-25 west of Greeley. Their car, a Ford Escape, hit a Colorado Department of Transportation construction car onsite at a project, which then hit one of the workers.
The man was taken to the hospital with moderate, non-life threatening injuries. He is employed by Myers & Sons Construction of Castle Rock, which has a construction contract with CDOT.
The women's car then rolled over, onto the construction vehicle, trapping the two inside. They had to be extricated and were taken to the hospital with what were described as serious injuries.
The construction project had already closed one lane of the two southbound lanes, and the other was temporarily closed for investigation. A hazmat team was called to the scene to evaluate chemicals on site of the construction project. It was determined there was no danger and the road was reopened.
Officials with the Colorado State Patrol said they believe drugs and alcohol may be involved. The investigation is ongoing.
