Victims Of Violent Home Invasion To Attend Golden Community Safety Meeting

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) – Police in Golden are hosting a community safety meeting Thursday evening following a violent home invasion in May where the victims will thank the community for the support.

It was a terrifying night for the Swift family at home on the evening of May 16 when three men broke into their house and attacked. Jesse and Jessica Swift tried to fight off the suspects and Jesse was stabbed.

The Swift's children were in the basement at the time of the invasion. Police believe the suspects accidentally targeted the wrong home.

Two suspected of entering the home and a third who drove the getaway car are in custody, but one is still at large. A warrant is out for the arrest of Cody Aaron Jones, 20. Anyone with information on Jones' whereabouts should contact Golden police.

The Golden Police Department and the district attorney want to help the community that was shaken up by the home invasion. Police say home invasions are very rare, but they encourage the public to attend Thursday's meeting so fears can be calmed.

"It's the shock factor, that, 'How could this possibly happen to two middle school teachers that did nothing wrong, and if it could happen to them it could happen to me," Karlyn Tilley with the City of Golden said.

Law enforcement will give the public home safety tips and Dr. John Nicoletti, a police psychologist, will be there to help people understand why they are dealing with fear after the crime. He says trauma, like a home invasion, easily shakes people's sense of comfort.

"The center of our comfort zone is our home, but that gets invaded and where do you feel safe," Nicoletti said.

The safety meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Golden High School auditorium. The Swifts will make a statement at the meeting to thank the community for all the support they have received.
