Glenwood Springs Police Call Missing Man Case 'A Mystery'

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Glenwood Springs believe a homeless man who went missing last summer may have been murdered and buried. Now they're asking for the public's help in solving the case.

According to police, Emmanuel Johnson, a homeless man, went missing around Aug. 25, 2015.

"It's very difficult to substantiate the whereabouts of somebody who has no permanent address or real connections to family, friends or locations on a regular basis," said Glenwood Springs Police Chief Terry Wilson.

Investigators said there are rumors that he may have been murdered and buried near the homeless camps above Doc Holliday's grave in the Glenwood Springs area.

The area is a popular tourist hike in the hills above Glenwood Springs. It's also notorious for transients to set up camp.

"Right now it's a mystery," said Wilson. "We need to know if anybody knows this person or has seen him in the time period between August and now."

Wilson said members of the homeless community have not been very cooperative and that makes the search for answers even harder.

The last homicide in Glenwood Springs was nearly a decade ago.

"What we do know is that he left some items behind that most of us would consider to be of value," said Wilson.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Detective Michael Yorty 970.384.6500.
