Rockies Manager Says Story 'Elevated His Game'

DENVER (CBS4)- Colorado Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story is making baseball history in his first few games in the major leagues. The interesting thing about Story's story that is so amazing is how unexpected it is.

If it weren't for Jose Reyes' issues, Story would probably still be in the minors. Down on the farm, he was never known as a true home run hitter.

He had exhibited decent power in the minors but last year in Albuquerque, Story hit seven home runs in 61 games.

Now in the big leagues, he's hit four home runs in three games, owns a Major League Baseball record and the Baseball Hall of Fame wants his batting helmet and batting glove.

Those four home runs are his only big league hits but he says he's not trying to go deep, it just happens.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss says Story brought his best to the game.

"I think he's a very level-headed kid, he has tremendous poise, we saw that from the first day of spring training, and he's able to go out there and elevate his game under the circumstances. He came into spring training knowing he had an opportunity to win a job on a major league club and he elevated his game. Some guys shrink in that moment and it takes them a little more time but not Trevor. It made him better and better and he had a great spring and a first great series," said Weiss.
