Trial Date Nears In Mother-To-Be Stabbing Case

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - The scheduled start date of the trial for a 35-year-old woman accused of stabbing a pregnant woman in Longmont and cutting the baby out of her womb is only a few weeks away. This week the court is addressing numerous pre-trial motions.

Dynel Lane's trial is scheduled to start in mid-February. She is charged with attempted first degree murder and unlawful termination of pregnancy in the attack on Michelle Wilkins in March 2015 at Lane's home.

Wilkins was seven months pregnant and had answered an ad for clothes when she was attacked, stabbed and her unborn baby was cut out of her body. She survived but the baby did not.

On Monday Lane was present in a Boulder County courtroom as officials reviewed the jury selection process. The judge agreed to a pool of 300 people to select jurors from.

The prosecution also submitted a list of of 19 witnesses and many different exhibits it will introduce during trial.

Also brought up on Monday was an interview the victim did in September with the Dr. Phil Show.

The judge denied a motion to quash the edited version of that show, meaning the Dr. Phil interview can be used in the trial. A complaint filed alleges that the victim did the show for monetary gain.

Lane remains in jail. Her trial is set to begin on Feb. 16.
