Colorado's 'Officer Of The Year' Credits His Fellow Officers For The Recognition
DENVER (CBS4) - Colorado's attorney general on Wednesday presented the Officer of the Year award to a Denver police sergeant.
Sgt. Dan Steele has been an officer for 20 years and CBS4 has done several stories with him over the years.
Steele works in the Special Investigation Division and is a supervisor with the FBI's Rocky Mountain Innocence Lost Task Force which has helped rescue 300 children in Colorado from sex trafficking over the last four years.
"It's incredible, I can't even … I mean it was shocking that I would be selected out of all the people in Colorado, I guess, for it," Steele said. "So it means a lot because really it's all of those officers that do this every day and investigate these cases and that work for me, but also as an extension of our task force, and their work is really shining a positive light on me, which is appreciated."
Steele was chosen among nominees from all over the state. Attorney General Cynthia Coffman commended him for combating "horrific crimes like those that exploit children."
