Hit-And-Run Driver Kills 38 Sheep Near Monte Vista

MONTE VISTA, Colo. (CBS4)- Colorado State Patrol troopers arrested a hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck and killed more than three dozen sheep on Tuesday night.

About 6:42 p.m. Tuesday, troopers rushed to a crash on Rio Grande County Road 8 South about eight miles southeast of Monte Vista that killed 38 sheep.

The investigation revealed that Lynn Ann Michel, 47 of Monte Vista was driving a 2005 Isuzu SUV westbound on County Road 8 and ran into a herd of sheep in the roadway. The collision killed 38 sheep and injured another 12. It is unknown how many sheep were in the roadway.

After colliding with the sheep, troopers say Michel drove away. She was later tracked down by troopers who found the front license plate from the vehicle at the scene of the crash.

Michel was arrested for DUI, no insurance and failed to remain at the scene of a property damage crash. She was later released on a summons.
