Toddler Finds Gun On Playground, Points It At Mother And Says 'I Shoot You'

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - There was a terrifying moment after a toddler found a handgun on a playground in northeast Colorado Springs.

Police say the gun is one of more than a dozen stolen from a Rockey's Moving and Storage unit about 10 miles away from the park. It was found by a 2-year-old.

The child's mother, who didn't want to be identified, was quite surprised.

"My son picked up a .22 caliber handgun and pointed it at me and said, 'Look mama, I shoot you,'" the mother said. "My coffee dropped, my cup broke. The first thing was to get it out of his hands."

The mother took the gun and called the police.

"At that age they're curious, so if there was something in it, that could have been fatal for me, him or anyone around us," the boy's mother said.

Parents in the neighborhood say they will keep a closer eye on what's left in that park.

It's the only gun recovered from the theft. Anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department.
