Police: Man Broke Into Home Multiple Times While Family Slept

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- Police in Lakewood arrested a man they believe was captured on security video breaking into a home while the family slept.

Police say on July 20, there was an attempted burglary in the 1400 block of Jay Street where the home had an outside surveillance system.

When the footage was reviewed police saw a Hispanic male looking into the windows, covering his face with a bandana and then entering the home. He spent more than 20 minutes inside.

The residents were asleep at the time and had no idea that the man was there. Police believe the man may have entered the home three separate times over a two-hour period that night.

About 10 a.m. Sunday, Lakewood police responded to the same address after a male suspect was confronted by the homeowner after he was seen peering into the windows of the home.

After he gave his name to the homeowner the suspect left on foot.

When police arrived, they contacted the man at an address also in the 1400 block of Jay Street. He was identified as Victor Manuel Escobar-Canessa.

Escobar-Canessa, 23, was taken to the Lakewood Police Department for questioning. Officers arrested him after interviewing him and examining the security video from the home on July 20.

He was booked on suspicion of three counts of second-degree burglary and invasion of privacy for sexual gratification.
