Mark Redwine Named As Person Of Interest In Death Of His Son Dylan

DENVER (CBS4) - The La Plata County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that the manner of death for Dylan Redwine has been changed from undetermined to a homicide, and the person of interest in his death is his father, Mark Redwine.

Earlier this summer the sheriff's office announced they had identified a person of interest but hadn't released the name until now.

"That designation was based on evidence collected, inconsistent statements made by Mark Redwine, and his behavior throughout the investigation," Dan Bender with the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Bender said Dylan's mother, Elaine Hall, her son Cory Redwine, and Elaine's husband, Mike Hall have been cleared of any involvement.

Dylan, 14, had been missing since Nov. 19, 2012, a day after arriving at his father's Vallecito home for a court-ordered visit during Thanksgiving break. The boy was living with his mother and brother in the Colorado Springs area. Mark Redwine says he last saw Dylan asleep when he left home early to do some errands. He reported the boy missing that afternoon. His partial remains were discovered in June 2013 during a search of Middle Mountain Road.

This June, investigators went back to scour the area where Dylan was last seen on Middle Mountain Road. "Items of interest" were found near where the boy's remains were found.

When the sheriff's office announced they had a person of interest in early July, Dylan's mother Dylan's mother said she was confident the case would be solved soon and remained optimistic.

"I can't bring Dylan back. I wish I could, but I can't," Hall said on July 9. "So in the meantime we just have to keep working and fighting for justice for him."

Retired FBI profiler Pete Klismet said he was hired by the La Plata County Sheriff's Office to help with behavior analysis to develop a person of interest.

"My opinion matched up with what they thought, and that's the point at which we said, 'Okay, so now I think it's safe to say we have a person of interest,' " Klismet said in July.

He told KKTV he's investigated a number of similar cases and has never been wrong, and he's not wrong in this case.

The case got national attention when Dylan Redwine's parents blamed each other for his disappearance publicly on the Dr. Phil show.

Dylan's mother still believes her ex-husband is responsible for their son's death. Mark Redwine denies involvement.

"I know him. I know his relationship with the boys. I know his relationship with us, and quite honestly I know what evidence is out there and that just basically ferments my belief in that Mark did this to Dylan," Hall said. "Of course I'm more optimistic now, but we live and breathe this every day," she said. "This is our life, so for us … we know the inner workings of what's going on."
