Federal Blvd. Closed Between 67th To 70th For 2 Days

WESTMINSTER, Colo. (CBS4)- Drivers who travel Federal Boulevard north of the Denver metro area may experience some travel headaches over the next two days. The Colorado Department of Transportation has closed Federal Boulevard between 67th and 70th Avenues for bridge repair.

CDOT says there is a soil nail wall failure, or an air pocket in the dirt, on the southbound portion of the Federal Blvd. bridge at 69th Avenue that could cause an air pocket collapse of the roadway above.

CDOT recommends the following detours during the closure: Northbound Federal Boulevard traffic should exit at 64th Avenue and use Lowell Blvd. other alternatives are Sheridan and Pecos. Southbound Federal Boulevard traffic should exit at 72nd Avenue and use Lowell Blvd.

The emergency work is part of a $12 million project that replaces the structurally deficient bridge. The new bridge is being widened that will allow for future expansion of the roadway.
