BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – The Boulder Dinner Theatre has a new name — it’s now BDT Stage, but the quality of the entertainment is as good as ever. Critic at Large Greg Moody saw that when he checked out the theatre’s new production of “Mary Poppins.”
“Mary Poppins is one of the great Disney musicals, even if it’s simply a stage version of the classic Julie Andrews movie,” Moody said.
The movie was reworked on its journey to the stage by Cameron Mackintosh.
“In this, ‘Mary Poppins’ has more edge, a few of the songs are a bit darker, and the idea of saving Mr. Banks is much more clear,” Moody said. “But that’s not to say this isn’t fun — it’s all kinds of fun.”
As presented by BDT Stage, Moody said the show is filled with bright musical numbers from the movie with solid performances all around, and great ensemble dance numbers choreographed my Matthew Peters.
“Wonderfully entertaining, ‘Mary Poppins’ makes a perfect summer musical confection for the entire family,” Moody said.
“Marry Poppins” runs through the summer. For tickets visit the BDT Stage website.
