Fire Destroys Warehouse In Commerce City

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters in Adams County were pulled back from fighting a warehouse fire on Saturday after the situation became too dangerous.

The fire broke out at a warehouse located at 6460 Colorado Blvd. just before noon on Saturday. When firefighters arrived they found the warehouse completely engulfed in flames.

"We attempted to evacuate people who were in or near the building," said Commerce City Police Department Cmdr. Harold Chapman.

One person was injured. He was taken by ambulance to Denver Health. His condition is not known.

Firefighters are investigating what started the fire but say there is nothing suspicious about the fire at this time.

"Apparently there was some work being done on the roof, roof repair, and it may have had something to do with how the fire started," said Chapman. "They were using some type of sealant and that's when the fire started."

"The roofers were putting a new roof on one of the buildings. They were putting down four inch insulation and then the membrane and the membrane, they glue it down with adhesive. So during that process as they were gluing it down it ignited somehow," said property owner Jerry Trujillo. "The fire actually started on the roof and worked its way down."

One person was arrested on an outstanding warrant after he tried to get inside the burning building to retrieve something.

"He was trying to return to the building to retrieve some items from the building. The officer ordered him not to enter the building and he did and he was subsequently arrested," said Chapman. "He was released later on a summons."
