Colorado Aims To Reduce Diabetes, Costs For Medicaid Clients
DENVER (AP) — Colorado health officials are launching a diabetes prevention campaign for people covered by Medicaid, a state and federal health care program for low-income residents.
The state Department of Public Health and Environment said Wednesday the program aims to reduce diabetes rates and health care costs by teaching people how to manage or avoid the condition.
The cost of the program wasn't immediately available.
Officials say similar programs have helped participants learn how to eat better, exercise, monitor medications and resolve health issues.
Officials estimate up to 11 percent of people covered by most Medicaid programs have diabetes and at least 30 percent have a pre-diabetic condition.
