DaVita Settlement Nearly $500 Million In Medicare Fraud Case

DENVER (CBS4)- DaVita Healthcare of Denver will pay nearly a half-billion dollars to settle a lawsuit claiming the company defrauded Medicare and Medicaid.

DaVita, which is based in Denver, will pay $495,000,000 in the settlement.

The lawsuit claimed DaVita threw out perfectly good medicine and then billed Medicare and Medicaid for it.

The company paid $55 million three years ago to settle another whistle-blower suit claiming DaVita defrauded the government by illegally compensating doctors who sent patients to the company's dialysis clinics.
