La Jara Mayor Makes Plea After 9 Families Displaced By Apartment Fire
LA JARA, Colo. (CBS4) - A massive fire in the southern Colorado town of La Jara destroyed an apartment building Wednesday morning and the mayor has put out a plea for donations.
The town's mayor, Larry Zaragoza, says everyone got out of the Morrison Apartments located on Main and Spruce safely.
It took about 100 firefighters from eight San Luis Valley fire departments to finally get the fire under control.
Tanker trucks had to bring in water from nearby areas when the town started running low on water.
Nine families lost their homes in the fire. Zaragoza has issued a plea for toiletries and clothing for the displaced families. Contact town hall, local churches and North Conejos schools for more information.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
