Deputy Honored For Tackling Crime Spree Suspect

GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4) - Deputy Fred Haggett was honored on Saturday evening at the Golden Elks Lodge awards dinner for his role in ending a lengthy crime spree.

Haggett is responsible for taking down as suspect that was armed and had shot at other officers, and was threatening bystanders and motorists.

During July 2014, Christopher Sullivan and a female juvenile led a police chase throughout Jefferson County. In that time, the two stole three vehicles, burglarized two homes, menaced 12 innocent bystanders and left at least six separate crime scenes in their wake.

Haggett encountered Sullivan on I-70, where the suspect was aiming a rifle and handgun at cars driving by. The deputy laid down his motorcycle and in a split second decision tackled the suspect. Others helped to handcuff him.
