Emirates Refers Case Of Mall Stabbing Of Colorado Woman To Top Court

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - The United Arab Emirates attorney general says the case of a woman accused of stabbing a former Colorado teacher to death in an Abu Dhabi mall restroom has been referred to the country's Federal Supreme Court, where she will face multiple charges, including for terrorism-related offenses.

Schoolteacher Ibolya Ryan was killed by an attacker shrouded in a full black veil in a shopping center on the capital's upscale Reem Island in December. Police have said the attacker then planted a bomb outside another American's house that was discovered before it detonated.

Attorney General Salem Saeed Kubaish identified the suspect Sunday as Alaa Bader Abdullah. He said she will face charges including the "deliberate killing" of Ryan, attempted murder over the bomb plot and committing crimes "with terrorist intent."

Ryan worked at Palmer Elementary School in Denver from 1997 to 2003. She was licensed to teach in Colorado at the time of her death and was trained to help special education students.
