Friends Of 71-Year-Old Victim Hit & Run At Stock Show Hope For Justice

DENVER (CBS4) - A victim of a hit-and-run is recovering at a Denver hospital and he and his family want the driver responsible captured.

The incident happened Sunday night near 56th Avenue and Franklin Street. Issac Wak Wak was leaving the National Western Stock Show and putting the key in his car to open his door when he was struck.

He is alive, conscious and had surgery to repair the many broken bones. The 71-year-old man is lucky to be alive. His sister Diane Yankton says it's devastating.

"It's very heartbreaking to come and see him all broken up like that," Yankton said.

Wak Wak's hands, arms, legs and pelvis are broken. He's got other fractures as well.

"How could you do that? How could you just drive off and just leave him there?" Yankton said. "How could you hit someone and just drive off?"

"We stop for dogs and cats and animals when we hit them, but we won't stop for human beings?" Wak Wak's friend Tim Johnson said.

The Colorado State Patrol says a black car was seen by a witness speeding southbound with no headlights on. The car tried to stop and skidded 30 feet before hitting Wak Wak. The black car is described as a sport sedan with a spoiler.

"I hope that we find this person ... I really do because if they did this once they might just hurt someone else again," Yankton said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado State Patrol.
