Gov. Hickenlooper Congratulates Yosemite Climber From Estes Park

DENVER (AP) — Gov. John Hickenlooper is congratulating an Estes Park climber who scaled a 3,000-foot sheer granite face in Yosemite National Park.

Gov. John Hickenlooper started his annual State of the State address by congratulating Tommy Caldwell, who was first to free-climb El Capitan Thursday.

Hickenlooper also congratulated the Denver Broncos, whose season ended Sunday in the first round of the playoffs.

Caldwell and fellow climber Kevin Jorgeson have been climbing the world's largest granite monolith since Dec. 27.

President Barack Obama sent his congratulations from the White House Twitter account, saying the men "remind us that anything is possible."

The governor is laying out priorities to 100 lawmakers who started work last week.
