Keenesburg's Wild Animal Sanctuary Takes In 3 Lions From Uruguay
KEENESBURG, Colo. (AP) - Three African lions have been transferred from zoos in Uruguay to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado.
The sanctuary said Wednesday it obtained the animals after negotiating with the zoos. The sanctuary worked with a Uruguayan group called Animales Sin Hogar.
The sanctuary says the lions will have better living conditions at the 1.1-square-mile facility in Keenesburg, about 30 miles northeast of Denver.
The sanctuary says its personnel plan to return to Uruguay next year to transfer some tigers from zoos. The group says it also plans to transfer lions, tigers and grizzly bears from a zoo in Argentina.
